Stoke City stunned Chelsea with a 2–1 win in this Division 1 fixture at Stamford Bridge on 1 September 1965.

John Hollins gave Chelsea the lead before half-time, but late strikes from Dennis Viollet and Maurice Setters secured victory for Stoke in front of 25,071 fans.

The match formed part of Chelsea’s strong 1965–66 campaign, which included a League Cup triumph and top-table contention under Tommy Docherty.
