David Batty, a hard‑tackling, all‑action midfielder, was the unfortunate man to miss the decisive penalty in the shootout, joining a familiar list of brave England players left crushed by the fine margins of tournament football.
These classic Umbro shorts were issued to Batty during the 1998 World Cup and make for a standout piece of England football memorabilia.
Originally given by Batty to a member of the England backroom staff, these authentic shorts remain unworn and are well suited to display, whether framed or hung.
