Derek Tapscott and Doug Lishman scored for the Gunners, while Ronnie Allen and Johnny Nicholls replied for Albion in front of 40,246 fans. 

The match featured Arsenal stalwarts Jack Kelsey and Walley Barnes, with Tommy Lawton leading the line under Tom Whittaker’s management.
